What to Wear for Engagement Pictures

So it is finally time to start planning your engagement pictures! This is a very important and exciting time! For most couples, this will be the very first time in front of our camera. It is completely normal to feel anxious or even overwhelmed. The most important thing we want you to remember is to be relaxed and have fun!

We want you to think about your engagement session as a fun date and not a photo shoot! What we love most about photographing engagement pictures is we have the privilege of capturing and documenting a love story. Within our engagement sessions we can always tell the couples that are madly in love!

Be relaxed and be happy! You only get to do engagement pictures with your fiancé once! (Unless you want multiple e-sessions, which we are happy to do!) The engagement session is a great way for us to build a relationship with our couples. When your wedding day comes around, you will already know what to expect and will be a pro! It also helps us get to know you better so we can be better prepared for your wedding day!

What should we wear for our engagement photos? This is one of the most commonly asked questions we get leading up to the shoot. We have compiled a list of outfit recommendations to help you plan for the engagement session!

What to DO

- Wear outfits that compliment each other in color and style.

-Bring two outfits to the shoot. Most couples choose to bring one casual outfit and one formal outfit. If you want to mix it up and go with two casual outfits, that is perfectly fine as well!

-Natural, earth tones work great for outdoor/natural locations.

-Vibrant colors work great for urban and downtown locations.

-Be yourself. Your engagement photos should show the world the true you! Choose an outfit that shows your true self. Don't go too far out on a limb and wear an outfit you would never wear in your everyday life.

-Don't be afraid to treat yourself. This isn't a must, but it is perfectly fine to consider getting professional hair, make-up, and nails.

-Iron your clothes.

-Bring props. This is not a must, but don't be afraid to bring props that compliment your personality and interests if you would like.

-If you want photos with your pet feel free to bring them along as well! (We have a particular soft spot in our hearts for dogs!)

What NOT to Do

Don't wear florescent colors. They can be reflective and give the appearance of weird skin tones.

-Don't wear crazy patterns. Crazy pattens can be distracting and take away from the photographs. Instead you should wear simple patterns and solid colors.

-Don't wear baggy clothing. Baggy clothes can have an unflattering appearance in photos.

-Don't wear excessively tight clothing. Form fitting outfits are great for photos! Just don't go excessively tight.

-Don't wear tennis shoes unless that is the specific style you are going for.
